SHORT ANSWER

Children cannot drive or ride on any of the 24 street go-kart tours in Tokyo: each driver needs a license, a passport and a 1949 IDP, and none of the listings we checked sells a passenger seat. The one option for kids is a closed circuit in Chiba, from age 6 and 120 cm tall.

Tokyo Go Kart with Kids — The Age Rules

Every street go-kart tour in Tokyo is for adults with a driver's license: all 24 street listings on GetYourGuide ask for a license and an International Driving Permit, and the listings that state an age set the limit at 18. Most say it plainly — "Children under 18 years" under Not suitable, or "Over 18 years old" in the notes.

One Shinjuku listing (from ¥9,000) lists "People under 17 years" as not suitable instead. That changes little for a family, because the counter check is the same everywhere: the driver's own home license, passport and IDP, as originals.

Tokyo Go Kart 2 Seater — Is There One?

No Tokyo go kart 2 seater is sold on GetYourGuide: none of the 25 listings offers a passenger place, and all 24 street tours are priced per person, one driver per kart. A search for a "tokyo go kart two seater" usually means a parent hoping to take a child along, and on the street tours that isn't possible.

Tokyo go kart two seater: the track is the closest thing

The track product is the only one with anything like sharing. Its listing says the number of participants you select equals the number of karts, and two riders can share and alternate on one kart if you book fewer participants than your group. That means taking turns at the wheel, not riding together; the listing doesn't describe a two-seat kart.

Tokyo Go Kart Tour with Kids — The Track in Chiba

The one Tokyo go kart tour with kids is really a track day: High-Speed Kart Racing near Tokyo, at New Tokyo Circuit in Chiba, about 60 minutes from central Tokyo. No driving license is required, and it has ★5.0 from 10 reviews.

Kids plan, ages 6–12Minimum height 120 cm; a junior kart up to 100 km/h, under staff supervision.
Adult plan, age 13+Teens from 13 drive the adult kart, up to 120 km/h.
Price on 15 Oct 2026Junior kart ¥40,000 (≈$254); adult kart ¥26,400. Sold per group.
Gear and limitsSuit, helmet and gloves included, shoes not; over 95 kg not suitable; no pickup.

On the checked date the junior option cost more than the adult one and had one start time against two, so a family with a 13- to 17-year-old can book the adult kart instead. In July 2026 Adrian drove there with his daughters, 16 and 18, after "a couple of trains and a short taxi ride".

Session times, gear and the circuit are on the track page.

Tokyo Go Karts with Kids — How Families Split the Day

With children under 18, a street tour works only if another adult stays with them for the hour or so it lasts. No listing offers childcare, a waiting area or spectator places. In September 2026 Heidi wrote that after a weather reschedule the electric-kart shop "let our kids wait for us in the shop" — a favor after a change of plan, not a service you can book.

Families with adult children show up often in the reviews. Chris drove from Shinjuku to Shibuya with his 18-year-old son in August 2026, and Kellie booked the Shibuya Street Kart tour for her son's 20th birthday in July 2026. Each driver needs their own three documents.

Go Karting with Kids FAQ

The age limit on Tokyo street go-kart tours is 18 on the listings that state one, and every street tour also requires a driver's license and an International Driving Permit. One Shinjuku listing words it as "under 17" not suitable. The exception is the Chiba circuit: ages 6–12 at 120 cm or taller on a junior kart, and 13 and over on the adult kart.

No, a child cannot ride as your passenger on any Tokyo go-kart tour on GetYourGuide. None of the 25 listings sells a passenger seat, and all 24 street tours charge per person with one driver per kart. At the Chiba track two riders may share a kart by taking turns at the wheel, but not by riding together.

A 16-year-old can drive at the Chiba track but not on a street tour. The track's adult plan starts at 13, with a kart that reaches up to 120 km/h, and needs no road license. Street tours require a driver's license, a passport and a 1949 IDP, with an age limit of 18 where one is stated.

The junior kart option cost ¥40,000 (≈$254) on 15 October 2026, the date we checked, with one start time that day. The adult kart cost ¥26,400 with two start times. The product is sold per group, and the number of participants you select equals the number of karts. Suit, helmet, gloves and a briefing are included; travel to Chiba is not.

No street tour listing offers childcare or a waiting place for children, so plan for another adult to stay with them. One reviewer wrote in September 2026 that an electric-kart shop let her kids wait inside after a weather reschedule, but that was a favor, not a bookable service. Most street tours last about an hour.

No. None of the 25 go-kart products sold on GetYourGuide in Tokyo is a two-seater. Every street tour puts one licensed adult in each kart and charges per person. For children under 18 the one option is the Chiba track day, where kids from 6 drive their own junior kart and drivers from 13 use the adult kart.
